Story continued from the back page.
ON Sunday afternoon Northam fighters Kaitlyn ‘the Rose’ George (15 years – 52 kilograms) and Tajlon ‘Thunder’ Mead (16 years – 62kg) both fought in the first Ignition Muay Thai event for 2018 held in Morley and both came away with huge wins under their belts.
Tajlon fought first and brought the Thunder immediately and simply overwhelmed his opponent over three times two-minute rounds by utilising his excellent cardio and striking skills to constantly move forward behind a barrage of punches, knees, elbows and kicks which never gave his opponent any opportunity to effectively defend or retaliate in an action packed bout which kept the crowd cheering from beginning to end.
The last 30 seconds of the final round was particularly exciting with the “Thunder” bringing the crowd to its feet as he gestured at his opponent to come forward and finish with a flourish.
Tajlon was awarded a wide unanimous decision over a very game opponent by all judges.
Kaitlyn was up to represent the Wheat Belt next and given that her opponent was a national wrestling champion who had recently transitioned over to Muay Thai, she knew that she would not be in for an easy night.
The first round was very close with Kaitlyn’s opponent edging ahead using her superior grappling skills to tie Kaitlyn up in the clinches.
The second and third rounds were a completely different story however, with Kaitlyn establishing dominance using her superior striking skills to keep her stronger opponent constantly on the back foot and deny her the opportunity to clinch effectively.
This was another very exciting bout with ‘the Rose’ bringing the crowd to its feet on several occasions with some lightning kicks and spinning elbows to her frustrated opponents head.
The dominance displayed by Kaitlyn over the final two rounds secured her a majority split decision victory and has secured her position as a firm crowd favourite moving forward.
