THE highly anticipated Toodyay nude run has been cancelled due to concerns from local police in the town.
Toodyay police contacted the Facebook event organisers to explain their concerns about the small police presence in town compared to the influx of people Toodyay was expecting on Saturday.
The Toodyay nude run was created as a protest a recent letter addressed to the family of Optus Stadium streaker.
Organisers said they wanted to draw attention away from the negativity of the letter.
Created by York locals Mat Ker and Trevor Randell the Facebook event called ‘Toodyay nude run’ went viral.
Thousands of people had said they were attending the event before it was deleted on Wednesday.
The event scheduled for Saturday at the Toodyay Football Oval has been described as “a protest for the Australian way”.
‘Nude run’ admin Trevor Randell said he was glad to be involved in the event despite having to take down the page.
“We hope it helped the Jenkins’ family by showing huge support for them,” Mr Randell said.
“We are overwhelmed by the support for the fight for the Australia way.
“As Aussies we are very proud.”
Organiser Mat Ker explained that he did not want to be held responsible for others breaking the law.
“I really didn't expect such a huge response,” Mr Ker said.
“I created this event for a bit of a laugh and as a response to that ridiculous letter, whether it's real or not it was worth having a laugh at.
“I didn't actually intend on the event being a real thing but if people still want to show up it's their choice, I just don't want anyone to break the law.”
