Bakers Hill RDA Carriage Driving Centre will hold an orientation day on Monday, February 26 at 10.30am at 502 Shingle Hill Road Bakers Hill for new and current volunteers and potential clients.
The centre provides the opportunity to enjoy bush driving, playing games, interaction with the horses and enjoyment from the carriage driving experience. We offer a service to people who wish to benefit from therapeutic and recreational equestrian activities, yet are unable to ride. With a specially designed program and under close supervision, each person has an opportunity to become a driver of a horse and carriage and experience the challenges and exhilaration of being part of this equestrian experience. Drivers demonstrate improved coordination, muscle tone, social skills, confidence and self esteem after just a few sessions.
Chris Wicks, president of the centre welcomes newcomers to our volunteer group. He said no horse handling experience is necessary, just a good community spirit and a love of the outdoors. Anyone interested please contact Glenys Wicks on 04299 43069, Chris Wicks 042894 3069 or Anne Meyland 04189 25807.
The Carriage Driving Centre meets each Monday and caters for people with disabilities who are introduced to the pleasures of carriage driving. Meetings re-commence on Monday, March 12 at 9am at the centre. At present we have five clients and are able to offer more places.
Specially designed vehicles with a folding ramp make carriage driving accessible for drivers using wheelchairs. Ambulant drivers are also catered for.
