Northam Mitre 10 and Wheatbelt Natural Resource Management (WNRM) have won a grant of up to $1000 from Healthier Workplace WA.
Small businesses will use the funding to purchase a wide range of health-related activities and infrastructure items including sit-stand desks and nutrition and exercise education.
WNRM Manager Rebecca Palumbo said the grant will go towards vehicle fridges.
“The grant means staff will be able to take their lunch, snacks and water with them as they travel the Wheatbelt and can choose to avoid some less than healthy options on the road,” she said.
Northam Mitre 10 store manager Shayne Lucy said for his store the money would go towards focusing on emotion health.
“The grant will help our workplace to build better internal relationships,” he said.
“With the rebuild of the company, came higher than expected pressure between the workers and their day to day living.
“We will create a healthier environment at work and to regain the spirit between workers, management and families by having fun together whist doing some exercise, yoga, education and team bonding”.
Healthier Workplace WA provides workplaces around the state with support to encourage their workers to make positive lifestyle changes.
Healthier Workplace WA manager Emily Davey said encouraging healthy behaviour in the workplace is important.
“Many West Australians spend a large part of their day at work,” she said.
“Along with the health gains, short-to-medium term outcomes of a workplace health program include improved staff morale and engagement, team cohesiveness and increased individual work performance and productivity”.
