Two Northam teenagers have appeared in the Northam Children’s Court after allegedly breaking into a home and bashing a 55-year-old man with a cricket bat.
Wheatbelt Detective Senior Sergeant Mitch Howard said the teenagers were charged after forensic evidence from the scene was returned to officers.
Det-Sen. Sgt. Howard said police would allege the two boys, aged 14 and 15, broke into a house on Perina Way in Northam about 3.30am on June 13, 2017.
The victim found the two offenders in his home and confronted them, which resulted in the man being struck with a cricket bat several times. He suffered severe bruising and swelling to his chest, head and back.
Both teenagers were charged with aggravated burglary and assault occasioning bodily harm.
The 15-year-old boy was remanded for legal advice and will reappear in the Northam Children’s Court on January 2, 2018. The 14-year-old boy was remanded to February 5, in for mention only.
