An accidental fire caused by routine fire breaking measures is a timely reminder for Northam residents to plan ahead.
Emergency services were called to the 2 acre Morell Street property at 2.50pm on Saturday after multiple calls from neighbours.
Contractor Wade Ashman was mowing the area with a tractor slasher when he hit a rock igniting the fire.
Fire officer in charge Matt Chomiak said the accident is a timely reminder for residents to make sure their properties are maintained properly before the fire season.
“There are people who don’t get their properties organised early enough,” he said.
“As firefighters we can’t do any more burns this season.”
Residents are encouraged to prepare their land between May and September each year before the prohibited burn period of December to February.
Crews had extinguished the fire by 3.15pm.
