Northam residents may have noticed Water Corporation’s incident support van in town last Wednesday, as local crews familiarised themselves with the new piece of equipment.
The incident support van can be deployed to incidents, such as bushfires, to support emergency services and the community.
Water Corporation acting regional manager, Derek Host, said the van was a timely reminder for those across the Wheatbelt to be prepared this bushfire season.
“The van will provide a temporary base for our crews and also help the community identify us when we’re attending incidents,” Mr Host said.
“Our crews are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to events such as bushfires, cyclones, floods and other severe weather events.

“Each year we prepare for bushfire season to ensure we are ready to respond – and it’s important those living in bushfire prone areas are also prepared.
“This includes having an independent water supply and pumping capability if you plan to stay and defend your home.
“Our message to the community is do not rely on scheme water to be available during a bushfire.”
During a bushfire, the infrastructure that delivers scheme water to properties can be damaged and if there is a power failure this will also result in a total loss of water.
High demand during a bushfire can also lead to a drop in water pressure and water supply tanks can quickly empty.
The Emergency WA website states that bushfires are unpredictable and happen every year.
“The single biggest killer is indecision,” the site states.
“To survive a bushfire, you must be prepared to make your own decisions.
“If you live near bush, even in a Metropolitan area, bushfire is a real threat to you and your family.”
