A 27-year-old man has pleaded guilty to injuring WA powerlifting champion Kat Becker after throwing a bottle of beer at her vehicle in a road rage incident in Wundowie.
Court officer Sylvia Crombie told the Northam Magistrates Court on Monday that Ashly Cotterill would be changing his not guilty plea to unlawful wounding on February 18, 2017, to a plea of guilty.
At the time of the incident, police alleged Ms Becker was injured after she and partner Rie Rumbold became involved in a “give way” standoff with the man.
Sylvia Crombie told the court that the victim, who received “indirect wounding”, was not known to Cotterill.
Ms Becker received plastic surgery and stitches to her nose, upper eye and forehead following the incident.
She had posted photos on Facebook of the injuries, which have since been removed. Ms Crombie told the court that the victim, who received “indirect wounding”, was not known to Cotterill.
Magistrate Jennifer Hawkins said it was a very unusual situation. She said Cotterill had no previous charges of a similar nature.
The fly-in-fly-out worker will be sentenced on December 4, 2017, in the Northam Magistrates Court. His bail has been extended on the same terms.
