Northam RSL sub branch has received a grant from the Department of Veterans' Affairs to assist their fundraising efforts towards erecting a statue of a soldier as a memorial to those Vietnam veterans who went from Northam.
To help boost the fundraising effort, the sub branch auxiliary president Denette Bernard and auxiliary secretary Donna Prytulak handed over a cheque for $2000 on August 16.
"The statue will be in memory of the young men who enlisted and loved Northam and served their country," Northam RSL sub branch president Mick Prytulak said.
"The members of the sub branch believe that this will help mend fences with the local Vietnam veterans and confirm that the Northam RSL welcomes them all."
The sub branch are looking at raising more funds so the statue of the soldier will be erected soon.
If anyone would like to donate money to help with the fundraising efforts, contact the sub branch secretary by emailing northamrslsb@hotmail.com.
