Five of the Avon Valley's biggest events on the tourist calendar will be given a helping hand, taking home a share in more than $1 million in the Regional Events Scheme (RES) funding pool for 2019-20.
A total of 68 events shared in the state government funding through Tourism Western Australia and Royalties for Regions.
The Avon Descent, York Festival, Beverley Heroic, Northam Motor Sport Festival and Moondyne Festival will receive funds to support the planned activities.
Demand was high for 2019-20 RES support, with Tourism WA receiving 120 applications for funding.
Applications for RES support are reviewed and assessed against criteria including the potential of the event to increase visitor numbers and spend, attract media coverage, create jobs and involve and inspire the local community.
Agriculture Region MLCs Darren West and Laurie Graham welcomed the funding.
Mr West said the regional events are important because they deliver social, cultural and economic benefits to the community, while showcasing the region to visitors.
"These events are significant for their respective communities, provide interest and entertainment, and are a great boost to the local economy," he said.
Mr Graham thanked Tourism Minister Paul Papalia and Minister for Regional Development Alannah MacTiernan, for supporting the development of regional events across Western Australia.
"The 2019-20 round of the Regional Events Scheme will provide funding for 68 events across Western Australia of between $5,000 and $40,000," he said.
"Thirteen of these events are located in the Agriculture Region and cover a broad range of activities."
The 2020-21 RES round will open in October 2019 and close in December 2019 for events that fall between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.
