During the month of October and November, the Northam Returned and Services League (RSL) members set up stalls around town to sell poppies in anticipation for Remembrance Day.
The money raised from the sales would be used to assist both current and former serving members of the Australian and Allied defence forces and their dependents when in need.
Northam RSL members Bob Mclachlan and Terry Dyer sold poppies last Friday, inside the Northam Boulevard.
Mr Dyer said Remembrance Day is personal to him, having many relatives who fought both wars and an uncle who was killed in World War I.
“He was a 19-year-old boy who left and didn't come back,” Mr Dyer said.
“It’s important we remember the sacrifices that were made. We can wander around and do what we like in this country, because those people made sure we could.”
He said Australian residents must also remember those who faced emotional and mental issues when they returned home.
