The beloved Avon Valley Arts Society Incorporated (AVAS Inc.) has come to an end after 50 years of operations in Northam.
After a second failed Annual General Meeting when only four financial members attended, the outgoing committee of AVAS Inc. decided to dissolve the organisation after 50 years.
During this time the organisation had produced the Northam Art Prize, Fred Killick Award, eisteddfod and Avon Rock, school holiday activities and member exhibitions.
Outgoing president Cliff Simpson said the Northam Visitor Centre space and the pop-up shop were great opportunities.
“There were good sales initially, and always solid sales for craft items at the Visitor Centre,” he said.

“Despite many requests and reminders the membership seems to have lost interest, so it is with great sadness we now begin winding up the organisation.”
He said they will hold a final meeting on December 11. Mr Simpson said the only thing that would bring the society back, would be regular meeting attendance and the election of a new management committee.
