Over 50 runners and walkers lined up at the Henry Street Oval, bright and early, for the inaugural Avon-A-Go Fun Run.
Cool conditions and a slight breeze on October 29 was ideal for runners, walkers and family groups as they went on the two kilometre or five kilometre routes around Northam.
The event was run by Northam Rotary and the Northam Clontarf Academy.
The first over the line in the 5km run was Troy Robertson followed by Lloyd Reidy and Justin McGlinn. Owen Windsor and Mason Barr were neck and neck fighting over the line to be the first children to finish the 5km run.
The first woman to finish the 5km run was Katie Leeder followed by Naree Lawler. The first over the line in the 2km run was Troy Sims followed by Claude Smith and Lachlan Thompson.
The first woman in the 2km run was Eliza Jane Thompson followed by Christie Windsor.
Notable participants were Glenn Brayshaw, who ran with his wife and two girls while pushing the pram and Northam Shire president Chris Antonio with a group that walked the route.
Northam Rotary president Christine Storer thanked supporters and Jan Horsley and Matthew Stokes from the Clontarf Academy who spent two years planning and organising the event as well as volunteers from Northam Rotary, Fresh Start and Northam Clontarf.
“We are looking for this to be an annual event and to attract those who enjoy exercising outside while helping raise money for local community groups,” she said.
