The highlight of the Bridgeley Community Centre Open Day was the unveiling of the Community Garden mural by Linzi Carter, who grew up just down the road in Cunderdin.
Funding from the Shire of Northam Events Grant was received earlier in the year to enable Bridgeley to complete the mural.
Shire president Chris Antonio, deputy Shire President Michael Ryan, Michael’s daughter Emma Ryan and Bridgeley director Katrina Rintoul each pulled the cord to unveil the masterpiece.
Chris and Michael represented the Northam Shire, Emma represented the children involved with the art workshop and Katrina represented Bridgeley.
Shire president Chris Antonio said Council was extremely supportive of the project when the application was received and were happy to support a talented artist who grew up just down the road. Ms Carter said she wanted to create a picture that was welcoming to people.
She combined the designs and artwork the children produced at the recent art workshop and then incorporated their pictures into the mural design. The result was a colourful masterpiece.
The mural leads the way to the Bridgeley Community Garden and definitely grabs your attention as you pull into the carpark. You just have to stand and look at it to take in all the details.
The mural was a community engagement project that featured artwork from schools in the community

Open Day organiser Rochelle Horlin said it was special to welcome the community into Bridgeley and the Community Garden.
She wanted to thank Laura Nairn and Karen Carter for their cooking demonstrations, and Michael Ryan for running the pizza oven.
“Thanks also to Anika Dent from Wheatbelt NRM for the biodiversity gardening tips in her talk,” Ms Horlin said.
“And thanks to all from Bridgeley Church of Christ who contributed on the day and the extra help and support from the hard working volunteers from Fresh Start was appreciated too.”
Bridgeley senior pastor Kym Edwards said the day was a special event that not only celebrated the anniversary of the centre but also the joint venture between the Northam Shire, Bridgeley Community Centre and the community garden.
“The mural was a community engagement project that featured artwork from schools in the community,” Mr Edwards said.
“The artist Linzi Carter chose artwork produced by students to include in the project as well as the conceptual drawing that she came up with.
“The idea is to draw people into the garden and to admire the incredible painting that has been produced.”
The garden is available during business hours 8am to 5pm. For more information contact the reception on 9622 3981.
