Northam Perth Scorchers Girl’s Comp: The first round was played last Thursday. Northam Senior High School took on the Bombers (St Josephs) and on the other field were Ballardong and Toodyay District High School. Both teams were out on the oval having fun. The Ballardong girls having their first win and the other game between NSHS and Bombers is to be completed next Thursday prior to the game at 3.30pm. It’s not too late to join a team. Northam Cricket Association Round 4: This saw the first derby with Grass Valley taking on Grass Valley Green at Bert Hawke 1, while the game between Ballardong and Toodyay was relocated to Jubilee Oval due to a wet pitch. GVG won the toss and elected to bowl before Grass Valley put on 167 off 40 overs, losing seven wickets. Tom Malinowski finished agonisingly short of his first 5fa with a catch going down in the late overs. GVG started well but couldn’t chase down the total, falling short by 53 runs and remaining winless for the season. Over at Jubilee Oval Ballardong hosted Toodyay and had them all out cheaply as it was a young side, then made the score easy enough giving the young Ballardong batsmen a go and declared at 20 overs. Under 13’s Rutherford Shield: First round of the Rutherford shield was hosted at the Bert Hawke oval in Northam last Sunday. It was a perfect day for cricket for the young boys. Some outstanding efforts from both teams with the bat and ball. Congratulations to the Avon/Merredin team for their first win. The next round is on November 19 where the teams are at split venues, Central Midlands JCA will host Mortlock JCA in Moora and Avon/Merredin JCA will host Northam JCA in Merredin.
