Bakers Hill resident Jenny McAuliffe has set a goal to complete a marathon this month following a recent heart attack.
Jenny was undergoing surgery on her knee and had a heart attack, meaning she needed surgery again but this time to insert a stent in the main artery of her chest.
As a former Commonwealth Games hurdler Jenny said her recovery was difficult. “It was a big shock to the system,” Jenny said. “When I first started on my four months of rehab it took me eight minutes and 45 seconds to walk 400 metres!”
But Jenny feels lucky to live to tell the tale, and now wants to make a difference. She will be doing the Heart Foundation’s My Marathon Challenge, to raise money for heart research.
“My heart team were fantastic and I'm inspired by the work of the Heart Foundation and I want to support them,” Jenny said.
“I will not be running the marathon - that's out of the question these days, but I will be trying to walk it.”
