Two local women recently took part in a walk to raise awareness for Mitochondrial Disease.
Both Fred Dymnicki and Katrina Elliss finished the Bloody Long Walk, which followed a 35 kilometre path through South Perth, Fremantle and up to Cottesloe on September 17.
Mitochondrial disease is a debilitating genetic disorder that robs the body's cells of energy, causing multiple organ dysfunction or failure and potentially death.
A total $103,740 was raised by those who participated in the walk and the number is still rising on the website.
Fred said the walk is a great way to raise awareness for Mitochondrial Disease.
“It was an honor to take part in this walk to raise awareness and help people suffering from this devastating disease and to hopefully find a much needed cure,” she said.
All money raised will go to the Australian Mitchondrial Disease Foundation.
