A Northam mother and son narrowly lost their first Muay Thai fights in a Perth competition on the weekend.
Fi (The Hammer) Mead (44yrs-49kg) and her son Tajlon (Thunder) Mead (16yrs-65kg) competed for the first time under full international Muay Thai rules where kicks, Knees, Elbows, Punching and grappling are all allowed in the ring.
The pair train with Elite Champion Mixed Martial Arts in Northam.
Trainer Guy Mead, who is also Taljon’s father and Fi’s husband, said the experience was great for the pair.
Guy said both fights were brilliant and each fighter lost in split decision.
“Both fights got standing ovations, it was awesome!” he said.
“They had the crowds on their toes for the whole thing.
“They were both fighting far more experienced fighters too.”
Guy said Taljon had a busted ankle, so he could not move his feet at all.
“He knocked his opponent down twice – but he couldn’t kick so lost some points there,” he said.
“Fi was the same, she kept pushing her opponent.”
