The Northam Shire will receive a $3.2 million boost from the Australian Government to go towards the new Northam Swimming Pool project.
The Shire found out on Monday it was successful in its Building Better Regions Fund application.
In January, The Department of Sport and Recreation contributed $1.5 million to the project.
Shire president Steven Pollard said the Shire will now take the next steps in the development process after securing the funding.
“We believe we have adequate money now to build the pool,” he said.
He said he hopes it will be ready by the 2018/2019 summer.
Northam Shire chief executive officer Jason Whiteaker said the Shire was extremely pleased their application was successful.
“The aquatic facility development is considered to be an important project for Northam and the Region,” Mr Whiteaker said.
“In addition to providing significant amenity benefits, the project will contribute to our growing economy.
“Over the next two years there is estimated to be in excess of $200m being invested into our community and this project will provide a valuable addition to a range of already committed private sector and government projects.
The new pool will be heated, providing the opportunity for increased participation among the elderly and infants

Federal Member for Pearce Christian Porter said the old pool has come to the end of its life at 60 years old.
“The new pool will be heated, providing the opportunity for increased participation among the elderly and infants,” he said.
“This project will see a public swimming pool at the Northam Recreation Centre that meets the needs of the community for people of all abilities and ages.”
Regional Development Minister Fiona Nash said she created the Building Better Regions Fund to help build strong communities for decades to come.
The new pool will be located near the Northam Recreation Centre where the Jubilee Pavilion resides on Henry Street oval.
