LAST Saturday was the third round of the Club Championships and the July Monthly Mug sponsored by Elders Real Estate.
A good coverage of grass on the course and brand new greens would provide a different feel for the players, add wet and windy conditions for this stroke event and this could be a recipe for a long day on the course.
You would expect the best players would dominate these conditions and last years Club Champion Daniel Negus didn’t disappoint with a one under par 71, nett 70.
Negus defeated Kevin Smith on a countback with Terry “Shed” Lawler a close third with a nett 71 beating Mike O’Shea on a countback.
Novelties: No. 1 best second shot Simon Northey; No. 10 longest putt Neil James; No. 12 nearest the pin Kevin Smith.
This was the third round of the Club Championships and Negus has taken a commanding lead with his three rounds totalling 216 strokes, his nearest challengers are Matt Woods with 250 strokes and Gary Balt 256.
The championships are over five rounds with the best three scores being used to decide the winner, there are several players who, if they play well in the final two rounds could close the gap on Negus.
Next week’s fixtures: Friday, July 21 – two-person ambrose – (open), 11am rolling start sponsored by MJW Mitsubishi Electric; Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 – Corolin Cup.
