The Northam Courthouse was filled with charges of driving under the influence of either drugs or alcohol on Monday.
Gavin Wayne Winmar sent the court an endorsed plea of guilty for a charge of driving with a blood alcohol content exceeding 0.05g. On May 25, the 31-year-old was stopped in Northam for a breath test and blew 0.06.
Magistrate Dianne Scaddan issued the Northam man a $500 fine, $188 costs and disqualified his license for eight months.
Daniel Luke Buss was appeared in court charged for driving with methamphetamine in his system. The 29-year-old pleaded guilty and said he “used it on the rare occasion”. Magistrate Scadden encouraged Buss to seek help to overcome his drug use.
The Northam man was fined $500, $188 costs, a $165 drug analysis fee and had his license disqualified for six months.
Leola Rae Crosswell’s charges were dealt with in her absence. The Mandurah women’s charges included driving with an unlicensed vehicle on the road, exceeding 0.08g of alcohol per 100ml of blood and exceeding the speed limit in a built-up zone. Crosswell was allegedly caught driving in Quairading at a speed of 92km/h in a 50km/h zone.
Sergeant Phil Milne told the court she was under the influence at the time blowing 0.121. She was driving an unlicensed vehicle with no number plates, he said. The 41-year-old woman was fined $650 for the drink driving charge, $1000 for speeding, $100 for driving an unlicensed vehicle, $149.40 for half annual license fees and costs of $188.
Magistrate Scaddan issued arrest warrants for Gregory William Riley and David Peter Pulleine for not attending their court hearings. Riley, a 50-year-old Girraween man, previously pleaded not guilty to his one charge of stealing a motor vehicle.
Pulleine previously pleaded not guilty to cultivating a prohibited plant and possessing stolen or unlawfully obtained property, when the 37-year-old Northam man appeared in the Northam Courthouse on May 1, 2017.
