The Landmark Regional game between the Avon Football Association and the Geraldton based Great Northern League was played in Northam at the Henry Street Sporting Complex as the prelude to annual Landmark Country week Championships held in mid July.
The day started under excellent conditions with a women's game as an acknowledgement to the fantastic work done by country women for country football.
The Avon team comprised of girls from the Northam Senior School and women from the Avon area against the Great Northern Football League and after four quarters of willing football at the final siren a draw was recorded with 40 points each.
Best player for the Avon was Dakota Narrier and the Great Northern Caitlin Pears and many thanks to Glen Collins and Tanya Cox for assisting in making this game happen.
The Regional game between Avon and Great Northern started with the Great Northern immediately asserting their authority over the game which they did not relinquish until the final siren.
The Great Northern show they will be a great chance on taking the Landmark championship honours with a display of hard running, clean ball movement and great spread which time and again left the Avon side floundering in their wake.
In Avon's favour though come Country week a number of Avon Players will have recovered from injury to supplement the playing list and Avon performance should improve on their next outing.
