Six footpaths in the Northam Shire have been earmarked for upgrading over the next two financial years after councillors adopted a two-year footpath program on May 17.
Councillors voted 9-1 that work totalling $253,561 be included in the 2017/18 draft annual construction program.
This includes Fitzgerald Street (from Poole Street to Hatton Street), Lance Street (from Gerald Street to Fermoy Street) and Lobelia Avenue (Kuringal Road to Zamia Terrace).
Three more footpaths, totalling $260,216 were recommended to be approved in the 2018/19 draft annual construction program, including Orchid Terrace (Kuringal Road to Zamia Terrace), Balga Terrace (Zamia Terrace to Kingia Road) and Wellington Street (Peel Terrace to Ensign Dale).
During discussion one councillor said it was an expensive process, with shire president Steven Pollard responding, saying the construction of the footpaths was the easy part.
Costings include associated works such as pram ramps, grab rails, tactile pavers and raising services lids for Telstra pits and Water Corporation services below.
