On a cold and wet afternoon the Railways FC travelled to York on Sunday to take on the Roos on Forest Oval in the AFA Belt Up round 6.
The Ressy boys were buoyant after a gutsy win against Quairading the week before. Young Brodee Starcevich made an impressive debut for the club and picked up third award, joining his Barons 16s team-mates Jordy Kickett, Ash Colbung, Austin Riley, Harley Corbett, Tristan Jones and Deekan Garlett to show the depth of talent coming through the juniors.
Together with Jordy Ryder, Jermaine Davis, Trevor Derschow and Declan Bell, Railways have four 15-year-olds, five 16 and two 17.
After a tight first half the Roos took a four-point lead into half time. Railways came out firing in the third and kicked four goals to one to take a 13 point lead into the final term.
In a scrappy last quarter the Bombers kicked two goals to York’s one for a solid 24 point victory, final scores 10-11-71 to 7-5-47. Jordy Kickett once again scored top votes for Railways along with Cam Watson, Brodee Starcevich and Big Jake Clark in the best players.
Best for York were N Smith, J Smith, B Warr and R Emin. A Colbung, T Derschow, J Morton and J Hitsert kicked 2 each for Railways along with R Thompson and J Kickett one each, J Smith (3 goals) and M Ashworth (2 goals) were York’s scorers.
The Railways League boys were also coming off a strong win against the Bulls but were wary of a York outfit that always seems to lift when playing the Bombers.
The Railways boys jumped out of the blocks early and kicked five goals to nil in the first term, followed by a four to nothing second term with the Bombers taking a 55 point lead into half time.
The back six were outstanding led by the de Blecourts, McCallion, McInnes and Heitia. Tyrone Garlett finished with five goals for the day and along with the Armstrong boys, who kicked six between them, the forward line was looking very dangerous.
The second half saw the Bombers kick another seven to York’s four to record a convincing 72 point win, final scores 16-9-105 to 4-9-33. Steven Caccetta was awarded BOG by the umpires to receive the Belt-Up Round game ball. Railways best were N de Blecourt, S Caccetta, L Rossiter, J Armstrong and T Garlett and best for York were T McNamara, T Atkinson, J Souness, T Fleay and B Joyce. Goal kickers for Railways T Garlett 5, S Armstrong 3, B Arnmstong 2, J Armstrong, J Morris, D Grafton, C Hunter, J Davis and R Dewar 1 each. For York T Fleay kicked 2 and J Souness and T McNamara one each.
The Fast Tart netballers couldn’t quite get the triple for Railways two weeks in a row but went down fighting to a good York team 71-43.
