SAFE Avon Valley have a new program they are trialling for the wheatbelt with the aim to help rescued cats and owners alike.
The Barn Buddies program houses semi-social cats who have been rescued from pounds, with individuals that have rodent problems or wouldn’t mind an all-natural pest killer for the home.
SAFE Avon Valley volunteer Freedom Bradbury said these are cats who need a safe place to live but like to be left to their own devices, and pursue their natural instincts like hunting rodents.
She said as a bonus to the new owner, the cats are desexed, microchipped and vaccinated.
It is very difficult to place kitties like these so taking on one or a pair will truly be life-saving for them and hopefully very helpful for you

“It is very difficult to place kitties like these so taking on one or a pair will truly be life-saving for them and hopefully very helpful for you,” said Freedom.
“They are free to adopt every day of the year, though a donation towards the vet care they have received is always appreciated.
“You will need to be willing to ensure that they always have access to clean water and a regular food supply – not just mice.”
