Chantelle Vanessa Lee Garlett has pleaded guilty to possessing drugs after police found 44 grams of cannabis in her home during a search warrant on August 15, 2016.
On Monday, the Northam Magistrates Court heard the cannabis was found in 44 separate individual bags, each containing one gram of the drug.
Police prosecutor Sgt Phil Milne said police found multiple messages on Ms Garlett’s phone with requests to sell and obtain drugs over a six month period.
Police also found a glass smoking implement and $620 in cash.
The 27-year-old admitted to selling drugs to a friend earlier that day for $30, but her lawyer Bernadine Heiderich said the mother of two predominantly used the drugs to treat herself for postnatal depression.
The court heard how Garlett turned to the drug as a coping mechanism.
She is extremely remorseful and understands the severity of the charges, said Ms Heiderich.
In relation to the cash, Ms Heiderich said her client received the money from her mother's compensation payout and it was to be used as bond for her rental.
Northam magistrate Jennifer Hawkins said Garlett’s lack of a previous record was her “saving grace” from being dealt an immediate prison sentence.
Ms Hawkins delivered a suspended eight month sentence to Garlett for 12 months on the sell and supply charge.
She was ordered to pay a $500 fine for possessing drug paraphernalia and unlawfully obtained cash, ordered to forfeit $620 cash and was charged $325 in court costs.
