THE Kellerberrin/Tammin KATS defeated the York Roos (18-11-119 to 5-5-35) in the Anzac round match at Donnan Park.
The win was all the more special for the club, as it was also the Aaron 'Azza' Taylor Medal game in memory of our fallen brother.
It was the second Aaron Taylor Medal, in tribute to a past player who died 18 months ago.
Aaron was a local boy from Tammin who played on the 2009 Reserves Premiership Kats team and is remembered for his speed and “gazelle like” running down the wing.
Aaron a highly respected player of the Kats football club, and an integral part of the 2009 Reserves Premiership, defeating Railways, and the 2011 League Premiership.
There was a strong contingent of Azza's family present for the day amongst the Blue KATS army.
Keller/Tammin lead from the front all day and didn't take a backward step.
The second half was when the thunderstorm hit the oval with rain going sideways and small hail present. James Venturini was dynamite up forward for the KATS, kicking eight goals while new recruit Kaiden Fullgrabe slotted three.
The Aaron Taylor Medal, as adjudicated by the central umpires, was awarded to Jackson Giles by Aaron's parents after the A-grade game.
In the Reserves, Kellerberrin/Tammin KATS defeated the York Roos (13-17-95 to 3-2-20) with Ben Wingrove kicking five goals for the KATS.
In the Netball, The York Joeys defeated the Kellerberrin/Tammin Kittens by two goals in a nail biter, after the Kittens were leading all game.
Keller/Tammin Football president Trevor Ryan said the day provides the chance to recognise a local fine sportsman who represented the club and the community so well.
