The Australian Skydiving Championships in York have been put on hold following the death of a competitor late yesterday afternoon.
After initially being called to the incident, the RAC rescue helicopter was stood down.
A competitor, believed to be in his 30s and experienced, plummeted to his death after his parachute became entangled and failed to open.
Paramedics and police were called to the scene, on Spencers Brook-York Road, near the intersection of Mackie Siding Road in Burges just after 5pm.
The RAC Rescue was also called but was cancelled.
No other person was injured in the incident.
