The Shire of Northam held its first CBD enhancement project meeting last week.

A small group of Northam Shire councillors and business owners attended the meeting. The introductory discussion outlined the objectives of the project which included:

  • Revitalising, activating and connecting key existing and future activity nodes.
  • Identifying potential future development sites.
  • Encouraging and fostering social and economic development and maintaining the rich heritage in CBD.

The CBD project area borders Minson Avenue, Chidlow Street and Gordon Street.

Issues were raised with the chosen area from members of the group with worries of a disconnect between other areas in the CBD, specifically businesses along the length of Fitzgerald Street that are not within the project area.

Northam Shire chief executive officer Jason Whiteaker said the area was chosen from the existing Shire Growth Plan. It was agreed that the project area would be reviewed.
