Agriculture and Food minister Mark Lewis MLC visited Northam recently for Liberal candidate Bill Crabtree’s sundowner event.
Mr Lewis said at a State level, the goal is to double the gross value of agricultural production by 2025.
“One of the challenges to meet that target is funding,” he said.
“My logic is very simple – you give me one dollar for agriculture and I will give you seven dollars back in return – and jobs.
“Following the construction boom in the resource sector, agriculture has to be one of the economic drivers going forward.”
Mr Lewis said since 2008, the Liberal’s have invested approximately one billion dollars, outside the agricultural budget, into the industry.
“Since September (2016) we have approved $300 million into agriculture,” he said.
