PAULINE Hanson’s One Nation candidate for Central Wheatbelt, Shaun ‘Blue’ Reid, has vowed to listen to constituents if elected Saturday.
“I’m tired of political correctness and fed up with pollies that don’t seem to want to listen, and I know that almost everyone I speak to feels the same, so I will listen,” Mr Reid said.
A motor mechanic who contracts to agricultural and transport industries mainly in the Eastern Wheatbelt and who has helped at harvest on the same Newdegate farm for 20 years, Mr Reid said he had already benefited from listening to community concerns about the drug ice.
“I (had) thought of it as a problem that the police were best left to deal with (but) this isn’t what the community wants as I’ve found out,” he said.
“People find it a big issue and I certainly didn’t realise it needs the attention that it does.”
Married to wife Sharren for 20 years and with his best mate his kelpie dog ‘Red’, Mr Reid said he could be relied on “to back local business to the hilt over foreign interests - Western Australia comes first”.
He said he also strongly supported “decentralisation” policies to assist Central Wheatbelt communities and business, retention and enhancement of the Royalties for Regions program and freight movement on rail, including reopening Tier 3 grain lines.
“I think that the major difference between Pauline Hanson’s One Nation and the (The Nationals WA) that hold the seat of Central Wheatbelt at the moment is that we have no historic loyalties to any other political party or organisation so we can row our own boat so to speak,” Mr Reid said.
“We are absolutely free to use our own conscience and not have to compromise,” he said.
Shaun is passionate about Military Veterans and this has seen him regularly involved in veteran’s organisations.
For many years, Shaun held various positions on the committee of an RSL sub branch. He was proud to be made an honorary life member of the Royal Australian Signals Association in 2007 recognising the many varied positions he has held with them over the years.
