A pre-assembled 20 ton holding facility was lowered from a crane into the back of the Northam Police Station yesterday.
The construction is part of the huge transformation happening at the station, costing around $3.198 million dollars in total.
Improvements will include a larger workspace for detectives, new staff amenities including a purpose built gymnasium, upgraded parking, upgraded security system and a new front counter.
Senior sergeant Geoff Dickson said the renovation will better utilise the internal main office area and modernise the facility.
The senior sergeant has asked the community to be patient with parking for the next few months and if necessary, to park further from the station.
The estimated completion date is June 2017.
