The Wheatbelt Athlete Support Program is calling for sports people and organisations in the wheatbelt to apply for financial support through round two of its Regional Talent Development Program funding.
The funding supports the development of regionally based athletes, organisations, coaches and officials.
The aim of the program is to encourage the continued development and progression of talented individuals along their sporting pathways from the sub-elite to elite performance level whilst living in regional Western Australia.
Successful applicants in round one included five athletes, four coaches and two organisations.
Kristina Perrin who trains at the Northam Northam Wado Ryu Karate Club was a successful recipient of the grant in round one and received Athlete Support Funding.
Perrin represented WA at the Australian National Karate Championships and won Gold in the under 21 years -61 kgs fighting division, Gold in the women’s -61 kgs division, Bronze in the women’s Open weight division and Bronze in the women’s team division.
Tennis coach Julie Sewell from Wongan Hills received the Coaches and Officials Support Funding to complete a community coaching course.
The program is funded by The Department of Sport and Recreation and Royalties for Regions through the Regional Talent Development Program and supports the development of regionally based talented athletes, coaches and officials.
Applications will be accepted from now until February 28, 2017 for programs completed between now and June 30, 2017.
