When last the Northam Running Club met it was the five-kilometre and 10km championship races out at the Muresk campus.
Muresk has a history of being a fast track but this time of year always proves tricky with the events sometimes being held in warm windy conditions, which was the case this time around.
The 5km Championship had Michael Dymnicki go out trying to put matters beyond doubt early and winning another title in 17:48 from an ever consistent Troy Robertson second in 20:58.
Marisa Robertson’s hard work throughout the year was paying off with a strong third place in 23:19; the first female across the line clinching the female title.
Brett and Lachie Willmott went toe to toe right to the end, Brett turning on the pace in a last gasp effort to get up for fourth in 25:04, one second ahead of Lachie.
Madison Dymnicki ran probably her best race so far to take out the 2.5km minor event in 12:17.
The 10km championships were then held in similar conditions, also out at Muresk.
Michael Dymnicki headed out in front taking things a bit easier this time and managed his way through the 10km to win in 38:17 ahead of Troy Robertson second in 44:57.
Mareesa Robertson just couldn’t quite get under the 50-minute barrier, again running in third in 50:17 and claiming the female 10km title ahead of Maria Matres, who finished in 59:58.
The minor 5km event had Lachie and Brett Willmott go at it again.
This time there was no way Brett was getting anywhere near Lachie.
Lachie winning in 24:04, and Brett finishing in 25:32.
Madison Dymnicki stepped up to do the 5km for the first time and finished third in 27:35.
The 2.5km run saw a comeback shock with Daniel Negus returning and dominating the junior event to win in 11:03 from Nadine Negus and Leonie Vaughan in 21:49.
The Northam Running Club’s new season kicks off this Thursday, February 2 at 6pm.
It will start down at the Northam Visitors’ Centre but will have to be a modified track compared to previous years where the first run back is a one-lap, hot lap.
The distance should be around 2.5km.
