Pam Grimshaw said the community have been “amazing” following her family losing their home to a fire last November.
The York family lost all their belongings and life savings in cash when the house burnt down.
Ms Grimshaw said friends and strangers donated kitchen appliances, food, clothing, blankets, towels, sheets, toiletries, makeup for her daughter, Christmas decorations and cash.
“It is amazing – absolutely amazing,” said Ms Grimshaw. “The York Salvation Army helped us a lot too with bags of food and clothing.”
Pam and Wayne Grimshaw rented the house on Northam-York Road with their daughter Sophie and two dogs.
Pam said have been relocated by their real estate agent to a furnished cottage.
“We are slowly trying to get back on our feet,” she said. “You have to just keep plodding along.” The fire was found to be started by a fault in the air conditioning unit.
