THE Department of Agriculture and Food WA’s (DAFWA) PestFax information and reporting service has been kept busy in 2016 with more than 1100 reports of pests and diseases from across the grainbelt.
PestFax editor Cindy Webster said during the 2016 growing season, the PestFax team received 784 insect pest reports, led by native budworm as part of the spring moth trapping survey.
Ms Webster said a surveillance effort to search for the presence of Russian Wheat Aphid (RWA) resulted in 65 reports which helped demonstrate that the aphid was not in WA.
DAFWA entomologists were required to identify a number of the aphids reported and these were confirmed to be aphid varieties other than Russian Wheat Aphid.
