Northam officially kicked off Christmas celebrations last weekend, by closing Fitzgerald Street and filling it with markets, food stalls and entertainment.
In its second year, Christmas on Fitzgerald, hosted by The Northam Shire in conjunction with the Northam Chamber of Commerce and Northam Women in Business, had more than 50 local businesses in one place, offering discounted items for the community.
The event included a Santa appearance, a performance by WA singer Chelsea Gibson and an official switch on of the 2016 Christmas lights display.
A popular addition this year was the mural painted on the day by Merredin artist Phil Doncon, who came in from Geraldton for the occasion.
Northam Shire event coordinator Brendon Rutter said the event was very successful with more than 2000 people attending.
“The event gave the community a chance to start the wind down process and see in the festive season,” he said.
Northam Shire chief executive officer Jason Whiteaker said it was great to see local businesses getting involved.
