Generous donations from former residents and the Merredin community have helped make life more comfortable for 19 permanent residents of the Moorditj Mia and Berringa Lodge.
The donations combined with funding from the WA Country Health Service—Wheatbelt region have provided new floor coverings, painting a large dining table and new chairs.
The chairs are adjustable to allow residents to sit more comfortably and communicate easily.
Merredin Health Service manager Sharon Hearns said the residents were delighted with the newly plastered and painted walls, fresh carpet, vinyl in the bedrooms and new vertical and roller blinds.
“Generous financial gifts from donors help us provide a homely environment for residents where they can receive the best care in the best place,” she said. “Donations from the public and from our support groups are a valuable part of hospital life and allow us to make our patients stay in a hospital much more comfortable and to provide better services.
“The items we can purchase with donations improve patients’ comfort and include payments for outings and personal hygiene. “Residents are normally required to purchase these items themselves but may not have the funds.”
Miss Hearn said if they were to receive additional donations, they would invest in redeveloping the garden. Moorditj Mia, which translates to Good Home, is a high care facility with 10 beds, located on the southern end of the Merredin Hospital.
Berringa Lodge was built in 1990 by the Merredin Shire and community and was gifted to the Merredin Health Service in October 2003.
The Lodge is detached from the main Hospital building and is located on Haig Road.
It is a low care facility with 10 single rooms all with ensuites, a communal dining room, sitting/lounge room, kitchen and laundry.
