Public health was a topic of discussion at the Northam Shire Council Meeting last week, on Wednesday October 19, 2016.
A catering policy that would ensure healthy options be available at all Northam Shire meetings, functions and events, was rejected 5-4.
One councillor in favour of the policy, Chris Antonio, said the Shire should be setting an example for the community and be providing people with healthy options. Shire president Steven Pollard said the policy was bureaucratic and unnecessary.
On the same night, councillor Chris Antonio was nominated as a new member of the Local Health Advisory Group which will act as a communication link between health professionals and the community.
