Junior cricket is continuing to grow with Melinda Lucas starting up a girls competition this season.
These games will be played after school and Melinda is looking to have four teams available.
If there are any girls interested there will be training held at the Bert Hawke nets on Wednesday, November 16 and Wednesday, November 23 starting at 4.30pm.
Melinda can be contacted on 0481 139 894 for further information.
In the general competition there are two age groups open to both girls and boys.
In the 12’s boys maximum age is 12 as of July 1, 2016 and girls maximum age 14 as of July 1, 2016.
The older group is 15’s – boys maximum age 15 as of July 1, 2016 and girls maximum age 17 as of July 1, 2016.
Girls are allowed to be two years older than the boys, encouraging the girls to continue after the completion of their own competition ends.
York Imperials Cricket Club are looking to enter a team in the older age group for the first time this season.
NJCA will again be entering a team in the Rutherford Shield (maximum age 12 as of July 1, 2016) with Ian Truscott taking on the coaching role.
The Rutherford Shield is played at Wyalkatchem, Merredin and Northam.
Last season was the first time that NJCA entered into the NARWANO Shield.
This season the team will be coached by Nick Norrish, taking over from Luke Gentle who had a successful season last season.
Games are played against teams from Wagin and Narrogin.
This includes both an away game and a home game.
The maximum age to play in the NARWANO Shield is 15 as of July 1, 2016.
Being eligible for either of these teams players have to be registered with the NJCA.
The cricket season is a busy time with the local competition, NARWANO and Rutherford Shields being played before the end of the school year and then into the first week of the new year, junior country week which is the continuation of the local competition once players are back from school holidays.
Then there is the Peel carnival which is held over the long-weekend in March.
Player’s fees for this season are $90.
