The 2016 Australian Youth Development Index shows differences in education and employment opportunities for young people living in rural Western Australia compared with urban youth.
The index produced in August was the first of its kind that analyses five pillars of youth development by measuring education, health and wellbeing, employment, political participation and civic participation.
The results show the percentage of young people in WA and QLD not in education, employment or training has increased since 2006, rural slightly more than urban.
Results also show that WA along with every other state except Tasmania have higher rates for rural youth who have experienced assault in the past 12 months in comparison to urban youth.
