The O’Driscoll and Davidson families had their family reunion in York on Saturday September 24 at the Castle Hotel with over 150 participants attending.
The O’Driscoll family celebrated being in Western Australia for 147 years, having arrived in 1869 at the Boramin, adjacent to Grass Valley and Seabrook.
The families are related by virtue of sisters; Emily Mcbreen married Jeremiah O’Driscoll and Mary Ellen Mcbreen married Robert Alexander Davidson, hence the family reunion.
Tom O’Driscoll has written a family history book with over 100 pages tracing his genealogy.
The family was originally from Skibbereen, South of Ireland and Tom has visited his hometown multiple times.
He said his interest in his family lineage is an irish trait.
“My dad would tell me stories – he might tell the same stories 30 times in the year,” he explained.
“Storytelling is an irish trait, and these stories were branded in me.
“Whether you liked it or not, you were one of the pupils!” he joked.
