KELLERBERRIN-Tammin are the 2016 premiers in the Avon Football Association. The KATS claimed the major prize in local football when they defeated York in the grand final in Cunderdin on Sunday afternoon.
The KATS had a solid start and never looked back to claim the 9.10 (64) to 7.5 (47) win – a margin of 17 points.
The Roos struggled early on, kicking only one goal in the first quarter with the KATS kicking five. The second quarter was a struggle for both sides with York kicking one goal and Kellerberrin-Tammin failing to kick any.
The third quarter proved to be a bit more free-flowing for both sides with York doubling its score to be 4.3 (27) at the final break, while Kellerberrin added three more goals, taking their score to 8.10 (58). If they were going to mount any serious challenge the Roos needed to be on their game early in the final quarter, and despite outscoring the KATS (that could only manage one goal), the damage had been done.
Lewis Henry junior was the focal point up forward for the KATS, kicking 3.4 and had he converted a couple more shots on goal, the winning margin would have been higher. Mitchell Brooks scored 2.1 from his three scoring shots and Mitchell Henry junior added 1.3.
Best players for Kellerberrin-Tammin were Mitchell Brookes, Kede Phillips, Mitchell Henry junior, Lewis Henry junior and Harrison King.
It wasn’t all bad news for York however, with the Reserves team sealing the premiership with a 34-point win over Federals.
York kicked 13.8 (86) to 8.4 (52) in a win that was set up with a strong second half. Feddies actually lead 3.1 (19) to 2.2 (14) at quarter-time but were overtaken by the Roos in the second session – thanks to an impressive five-goal effort.
