BEVERLEY is out of the race in the 2016 Avon Football Association after losing the first semi-final to Kellerberrin Tammin on Sunday afternoon.
Played at the Henry Street Oval in Northam, the Redbacks were in control in the first quarter, leading 2.2 (14) to the KATS 1.3 (9).
But many sensed it was only a matter of time before the KATS improved their strike rate in front of goal and would take the upper hand.
In the second quarter they managed three majors and restricted Beverley to just one, to take an 11-point lead into the change rooms at half time. From there the KATS were in command, delivering another strong effort in the third quarter to lead by 24 points.
The final quarter was a lack lustre one from both teams when it came to scoreboard pressure.
The KATS only added 1.5 to their tally but at the other end of the ground the Redbacks could only muster two points – with the final score being 8.14 (62) to 4.5 (29).
While it is season over for Beverley, Kellerberrin now has a week off and will return in the preliminary final the following week to take on the loser of the clash between York and Cunderdin.
The second semi-final will be held in Quairading this weekend with the winner progressing straight to the grand final.
In the Reserves Kellerberrin Tammin also had a win, downing Cunderdin 9.13 (67) to 3.9 (27).
The KATS were off to a strong start, kicking 3.4 in the first quarter and at the same time they restricted Cunderdin to a mere three points. Cunderdin managed to kick a goal in the second quarter but was kept scoreless in the third quarter as it watched the 2016 season slip away.
This weekend Federals will take on York with the loser to play Cunderdin the following week.
