THE Northam Running Club’s latest event was the Northam Golf Club six kilometre and 3km cross country.
It was a tale of two different types of conditions which saw the start of the run, run in quite good conditions.
Then 10 minutes in, a front came through, raining enough to create a true cross country course.
There was enough rain to cause the ground to become slippery making things a little tricky.
In the 6km event Michael Dymnicki had it his own way from the start comfortably running in for the win in 22:18, while for the rest of the field things were heating up for the minor placings.
Simon Northey claimed the second spot in 30:52 after being locked in for the 6km by timing chief Ken Parker.
A returning, Mareesa Robertson took it right up to young Steph Donegan for the third place with young legs prevailing this time up the final hill to the finish line.
Steph just held off Mareesa by nine seconds finishing in 31:43, with Mareesa through in 31:52.
Maria Matres finished just ahead of team Woods consisting of Matt and Tarsh, with it being Matt Woods’ first official run back with the club after a couple of years.
The question will now be will they still run together next time.
Matres finished in 35:35, team Woods in 35:59.
The 3km was fought out by the younger brigade and Nadine Negus.
Bailey Donegan again ran well to take out the win in 15:04.
Sam Burges and Madison Dymnicki had a little tussle for 2nd with Sam and his longer legs winning out to finish in 16:24 ahead of Madi in 16:47.
Jazzy Woods cruised around coming in with 19:57 ahead of Nadine Negus who was doing the right thing making sure all the juniors went the right way finishing in 20:28.
Ken Parker and Kathy Burges braved the weather to hold the batten for the walker brigade.
Our next event is the 2.5km Quit Cup at Bert Hawke this Thursday, August 25, starting at 5.15pm.
All runners or walkers of any pace are welcome. For more info call Michael on 0417 920 986 or find us on Facebook.
If runners thought this was a challenge, it is nothing compared to the Tough Mudder events that are popular around the world. These events are hardcore obstacle courses that have been designed to challenge runners in their strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie.
Runners who complete the courses have reflected on a real sense of achievement, with many unable to conquer the courses, up to 20km. There are major events held right across the country with headline competitions still planned for the Eastern States.
