NORTHAM Senior High School students had a vital lesson in road safety last week.
The Australian Trucking Association’s Safety Truck was set up at the school to educate the students on the role heavy vehicles play and how drivers can share road safety with them.
This was of particular importance to the students, with many planning to get their driving licence in the near future.
The Northam visit was part of a Transafe WA promotion that will see the truck stop at the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days this week, before heading to the Beverley Agricultural Show and the Newdegate Field Days, along with other schools.
“It’s a fact that our younger drivers are not specifically taught how to drive safely around heavy vehicles, it’s not included in your L and P plate tests,” Transafe WA executive officer Ana Stachewicz said.
The truck uses interactive activities and videos to highlight how to drive safely around trucks including dealing with blind spots, turning vehicles and truck stopping distances.
