THE Northam Running Club is set for a return from its winter hiatus this Thursday, July 28 with a dynamic duo relay at the Northam Trotting Track / Burwood Park kicking off at 5.15pm.
Starters will pair up and the run is a team orientated 30-minute time trial to see what distance they can cover.
This will be a great social run to kick-start the second half of the season.
When Running Club last met before the winter break it was for the Bridges Relay, and there was a battle brewing between the Dymnicki’s, Willmott’s and team Donegan.
With the relay being over six laps (six kilometres) it was Lachie Willmott who headed off on his last lap determined to open enough of a lead to hand over to Brett Willmott to hopefully run home on the glory lap for the win.
But Madison Dymnicki worked hard to hold Lachie at bay and keep the margin just within an achievable chase down distance.
With the change over for the last lap it was on, with Brett Willmott setting off fast trying to finish the race early.
Michael Dymnicki then set off in the hope Willmott would run out of steam and things wouldn’t go down to a sprint finish.
Unfortunately it did end up going down to a sprint finish, with Willmott just running out of fuel with 300 metres to go and opening the door enough for Dymnicki to reel him in in the later stages to score a win for the Dymnicki’s in 26:40.
Willmott’s scored a gallant second in a time of 27:02.
Team Donegan, made up of Steph and Bailey, held their own for third place in 29:35, just keeping at bay the newbie team of Leonie Mills who finally made it to an event for the last one before the break after months of trying; and Luke Speering came in fourth in 30:32.
Kiara Willmott and Sam Burges with the “we are not letting them beat us” attitude, only just held off Simon Northey and Clive Fillingham to claim fifth in 32:11, with Northey and Fillingham coming through in 32:11.
All this went down while the big band of five walkers/joggers were happy to just walk and enjoy the scenery while wondering what all the fuss was about.
