With more than 340km of rail infrastructure residing in the Avon Valley, Brookfield Rail has been a proud supporter of the Avon Descent for more than 30 years.
This support confirms the organisation’s strong commitment to building positive, lasting relationships within the communities in which it operates.
Brookfield Rail is the manager and operator of the state’s 5500km open access, multi-user rail freight network extending throughout the southern half of Western Australia.
The rail network operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and during the 2016 Avon Descent will remain in operation as normal.
... the safety of competitors, support crews, spectators, rail industry employees and the wider community is of critical importance
Members of the community visiting the Avon Descent are strongly encouraged to remember trains will still be travelling through the Avon Valley and they should remain vigilant when crossing the railway.
When crossing the railway by foot or in a vehicle, only cross at designated crossings, adhering to stop signs and safety restrictions.
Trespassing on the rail corridor without appropriate permission is illegal, and highly dangerous.
Over the Avon Descent weekend, Brookfield Rail employees will be stationed at various level crossings throughout the Avon Valley, day and night, to provide directions and to ensure the safety of the general public attending the event.
Brookfield Rail’s rail network spans from Geraldton in the north, to Leonora and Kalgoorlie in the east, and south to Esperance, Albany and Bunbury.
Safety is Brookfield Rail’s priority.
With that in mind, here are a few important reminders to make the Avon Descent safe and enjoyable for competitors, crews and spectators.
The speed limit on the Rail Access Road is 20km/h.
The Rail Access Road is one-way only, except for emergency vehicles. Overtaking on the Rail Access Road is also not permitted.
Vehicles are not to be stationary in the middle of the Rail Access Road.
Follow instructions from Brookfield Rail employees.
You must also obey stop signs at level crossings and display Valley Event stickers clearly on vehicle windscreens.
