ON OCTOBER 15 and 16, approximately 70 horses and riders will ride the CY O'Connor Pipeline trail and Kep Track return to Northam.
This event supports Alzheimer's WA.
Riders will commence the trail from either Wooroloo (50 km each day), or Clackline (25 km each day).
Horses and Riders will trek from Wooroloo and stop for lunch at the Avon Brook Winery in Clackline where the 25km riders will join them for the final 25km leg.
Riders will camp at the Avon Valley Equestrian Centre in Northam, Clarke Street where they will enjoy a hearty dinner, and be entertained with music and will hold a Fundraising Auction from 6.45pm.
This event commenced in 2014 where we raised just under $7,000 for Alzheimer's WA.
Last year the group raised over $23,000 and this year they have set our sights on raising $40,000 for Alzheimer's WA.
It is estimated that one in four people will be affected by Alzheimer's disease and at present there is no cure.
There are riders from all ages taking part, some as young as ten.
People are welcome to join the riders at the rear of Bakers Hill Pie Shop at approximately 8.30am to cheer on the first group as they stop for morning tea and a short break, or come and cheer on the riders as they ride along Broome Terrace in Northam from approximately 1.30pm until 3.30pm as riders arrive in Northam and travel the last leg.
People are also welcome to join the group for the fundraising auction in Northam, Clarke Street Northam from 6.45pm Saturday, evening October 15.
There are over 100 items available for auction including accommodation and restaurant vouchers, equestrian supplies and beauty vouchers.
The group would especially like to hear from anyone who is interested in volunteering as an event marshall to assist with cooking, helping with horses or road crossings etc.
They are also interested to hear from any businesses or individuals who would like to donate any vouchers or items for the fundraising auction, where all funds raised from the auction will go directly to support Alzheimer's WA.
