WHILE most people were tucked up in bed, a group of golfers of questionable sanity were out last Saturday morning, in near freezing conditions to contest the Traders Trophy.
This event is a Four Ball Better Ball par event for pairs, over 36 holes, and sponsored by Pattons Panel and Paint, Valley Ford and Beazley Fencing.
With the first 18 holes starting at 7.30am, a lunch break, and then doing the whole thing again in the afternoon, many golfers feel that it is only the youngest and fittest golfers who can complete this event.
The winning pair had other ideas.
Bob Allert having played golf since the end of the Jurassic period and relative youngster Cameron Evans showed that they complimented each others game to come in with a match winning score of +14.
Runners-up with +12 were Matthew Woods and Daniel Negus, who backed this great effort by also winning the gross trophy with a score of 141.
Other winners:
Morning Winners – Barry Chattaway and Adrian Rebane +7;
Afternoon Winners – Peter Bray and Geoff Hall +8 on a count back from Brian Slater and Lew Cutmore.
